The Debating Society sees new and experienced debaters tackle a different motion every week, where they can develop skills in presenting and arguing that will serve them well throughout their lives.
The Public Speaking society also meets weekly and has a steadily growing cohort of keen speakers, currently focusing on ESU Churchill Speaking Contest.
There are hotly contested junior and senior Club competitions in both debating and public speaking, and regular coaching sessions with a top-5 world-ranked debater are open to all.
Boys from every year regularly achieve national success. In 2015, 11 boys finished among the top 10 teams or speakers in different national competitions. Ashpen Rajah and Reza Rohani came second to Dulwich College in the final of the world’s largest school debating competition, Oxford Schools, while Seb Kobler and Paul Heller, and Alex Fleming-Brown and Josh Goldstein finished sixth and seventh respectively in the International Competition for Young Debaters.
