Physical Education

At É«ÖÐÉ«ÊÓƵ’s we develop excellence in Physical Education whilst fulfilling the potential in every pupil.

Physical Education is an essential subject of study. It increases physical competence, health and fitness, self-responsibility and enjoyment of physical activity so that it becomes an essential part of pupil’s lives.

At É«ÖÐÉ«ÊÓƵ’s we develop excellence in Physical Education whilst fulfilling the potential in every pupil. Our philosophy can be broken down into the following areas: entitlement, engagement and enjoyment.

The curriculum is designed to develop core skills in body management and hand-eye co-ordination, coupled with the understanding of health and fitness and game understanding.

All pupils in the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Form study Physical Education and they receive one lesson per week. Topics are covered in half term blocks and include swimming, basketball, health related fitness, gymnastics, athletics and water polo.

In an interactive and challenging way, we teach pupils to recognise the importance of exercise in their lives and explore physical skills and tactics to suit activities that need different approaches and ways of thinking.

Co-curricular

Physical Education is closely linked with sport at É«ÖÐÉ«ÊÓƵ’s. Pupils of all abilities have the opportunity to represent the school at their chosen sport or through the inter-house system.

The sports programme offers over 30 sports and further installs many of the traits and values we believe are important, including commitment, honesty, leadership, resilience, respect, responsibility, scholarship, self-discipline and teamwork.
